Association. Stokes joined NCBA in 1996 as the chief financial officer. In 1999, he added the assignment of executive vice president for finance and operations, until taking over as CEO in the spring of 2002. NCBA is a trade association with approximately 30,000 individual members, 45 state cattle associations and 40 national breed and industry organizations. Together these organizations represent more than 230,000 cattle breeders, producers and feeders. NCBA's mission is to increase profit opportunities for cattle and beef producers by enhancing the business climate and building consumer demand. As CEO, Stokes manages a staff of 120 people and an annual budget of $62 million to accomplish the objectives defined by members and stakeholders who invest their time and money in the organization.

A native Texan, Stokes has solid roots in San Angelo, receiving an undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Angelo State in 1978. He worked at Handy Packing Company in San Angelo with his father, Jerry Stokes, and brother, Gary Stokes, before moving to Austin in 1989 to obtain an MBA from the University of Texas. From 1993 until 1996, Terry was employed by the Texas Beef Council as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President. In addition to his career at NCBA, Stokes partners with his brother-in-law in a small stocker operation in Southern Texas.

Stokes and his wife, Beverley, a 1980 Angelo State graduate, live in Denver, Colorado. They have two children. Their son, Ryan, is a high school senior, and their daughter, Whitney, is an English education major at Oklahoma Baptist University.
