Suzanne Davis Slate
Golden Ex of the Year
Suzanne Davis Slate, one of four girls in her family, was raised in San Angelo and
Suzanne Davis Slate
attended Stephen F. Austin Elementary and Edison Junior High School, before graduating from San Angelo High School in 1944. An academic standout, Slate was a two-year member of the National Honor Society and salutatorian of her senior class. She was also active in numerous organizations including the Footlighters, drill and pep squad and Future Homemakers of America.

While attending San Angelo College, Slate continued her involvement as a cheerleader and member of the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity and Lambda Tau sorority. She was the freshman and sophomore spring picnic chairman. She married ASU alumnus Kenneth Morton Slate in 1950, celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary last spring. Slate and Kenneth have two sons, Douglas and Stanley, an ASU alumnus.

 

Slate worked for Lone Star Gas Company, Goodfellow Air Force Base, and was employed with Livestock Weekly for more than twenty years. Slate was a member of the Optimist Wives Club and has been an active volunteer for the First Baptist Church. She also is a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and Daughters of Republic of Texas.

Slate has served twice on the ASU Self-Study Committee, reviewing accreditation of the university every ten years. Slate served on the ASU Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1986 to 1998.
