Oscar C. Gomez

Oscar C.Gomez received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Angelo State University in

1968 and continued his studies, earning a master’s degree in education from Arizona State University in 1970. Gomez was a public schools educator until 1974 when he joined GTE Southwest in San Angelo as a general tariff assistant. He held several tariff and pricing positions until 1978 when he became a major accounts manager in Marketing. The following year, he was named Rates and Tariffs manager, and in 1982, he was promoted to Revenues and Earnings director.

 

Gomez was elected Vice president – Revenue Requirements in 1987, Vice president – Regulatory and Government Affairs in 1988, area Vice president – Regulatory and Government Affairs in 1991, and state Vice president – External Affairs in 1994. In August 1995, he was named Vice president – Regulatory and Governmental Affairs – Central Region. In January of 1997, Gomez was appointed Vice president – Diversity Marketing and Management, responsible for identifying and developing ethnic marketing business opportunities. In this role, he managed efforts to identify minority and women- owned businesses as potential GTE vendors or suppliers and developed relationships with cultural diversity leaders at the local, state, and national levels. Gomez also worked with the GTE Foundation to target community giving that supports GTE commitment to diversity. Additionally, he served as a resource to senior management on diversity and work/family issues, identifying management education and training needs, and helping identify minority and women candidates for employment opportunities within GTE. In June 2000, Gomez was appointed Vice president – Human Resources for Advanced Services. His responsibilities included workforce development, staffing, diversity, labor and business compliance for the Advanced Services Group.

Gomez is currently Vice president – Office of Diversity and Business Compliance for Verizon Communications (Formerly GTE and Bell Atlantic). His responsibilities include overseeing the Diversity Centers of Excellence, which includes workforce diversity, economic and business development, employee resource groups, diversity council and communication of diversity and multicultural initiatives. Gomez is also responsible for safety and environment, work/life strategies, ethics and business compliance and Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity administration and compliance.

Gomez served as the first elected Hispanic trustee for the San Angelo Independent School District from 1975 to 1988 and served as president the last five years he served on the school board. He is a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and serves as secretary of the Camp Board. Gomez is chairman of the board of directors of D/FW Inroads, Inc. and the Texas Telephone Association Foundation. He also serves on the board of directors of United Central Bank. In 1996, he was awarded the Neville Haynes Award from the Texas Telephone Association for service to the industry. He is a member of the Senior Executive Advisory board of the United States Chamber of Commerce and of the Corporate Alliance of the League of Latin American Citizens (LULAC).

Gomez is married to Corina Enriquez formerly from San Angelo, Texas, has one son, Greg, and one
grandson, Gregory Austin. Gomez’s mother, Enedina Gomez, is a resident of San Angelo.
