Bettie and Clovis Olsak

2006 Golden Exes of the Year

Clovis Olsak was a San Angelo College student who was playing for the San Angelo Junior Sheepherders baseball team when he met San Angelo High School senior Bettie Morris at a team party on Easter weekend 1946.

The pair began dating and soon Bettie joined Clovis at San Angelo College. Clovis was an accomplished athlete for the Rams, earning All-Pioneer Conference honors in football and the shot put. Bettie was studying Business Administration and was in Little Theater.  In fact, the 1947 Rambouillet yearbook is filled with photos of the pair.  Clovis as the sports reporter for the Ram Page; Bettie as a member of the Lambda Taus; the couple enjoying an evening of dancing at the Christmas Formal.

Bettie and Clovis married in 1948 and Bettie accompanied Clovis to College Station, where he received a degree in animal husbandry.

After A&M, the Olsaks returned to the San Angelo area.  Clovis was the Veteran’s School Ag teacher and assistant superintendent of the City of San Angelo Parks, before becoming a self-employed farmer and rancher. Bettie worked at San Angelo Savings, was vice-president of marketing at City Savings & Loan and later became the marketing officer for Tom Green National Bank.

Throughout their careers, the Olsaks have been active in numerous civic activities. Bettie has been a member of the Santa Rita PTA, a Girl Scout leader, a director for the Texas Pecan Growers Association and a volunteer with the San Angelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Clovis has been president of the West Texas A&M Club, the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, the Tom Green County Farm Bureau and the San Angelo College Ex-Students Association. He also was a director of Tom Green National Bank and on the San Angelo Board of City Development.  Both have served on the ASU Alumni Association board of directors and as a host family for ASU international students.

The Olsaks have raised three daughters, all who attended Angelo State University-- Cindy Hanks, Class of 1971 and 1980, Stephanie Sayers, who attended ASU for two years before earning her BS in Pharmacy at the University of Texas, and Connie Langlais, Class of 1977.

Bettie and Clovis keep busy with a pecan orchard on their ranch in Schleicher County.  Clovis still ranches, maintaining small herds of sheep, cattle and goats. Both enjoy social clubs, dancing and visiting their family, which includes three granddaughters and two great grandsons.

It is with the great pleasure and genuine affection that the ASU Alumni Association recognizes its first couple as Golden Exes of the Year, Mr. Clovis and Mrs. Bettie Morris Olsak.
