In February of 1999, Hagar left Gibson, Dunn to form an Internet company called GroceryWorks.com, headquartered in Dallas. The initial focus of GroceryWorks is to develop a vertically integrated online home grocery business, combining the ease of Internet order entry, the efficiencies of product warehousing, and the convenience of a sophisticated distribution and homefulfillment system. The long-term mission is to he a leading Internet-driven home fulfillment business on a national scale, providing all types of grocery and home supply products into the home. GroceryWorks began selling and delivering groceries to customers in Dallas in September, 1999. Upon successful implementation in Dallas, the company will move into the Houston and Austin areas. Hagar currently serves as the Founder and CEO of GroceryWorks, with 22 current employees and a projected staff of more than 75 by October, 1999.
Hagar is married to Brenda Gail Allen ('92), an ASU graduate who has taught school in Boston, Carrollton, Texas, and The Hockaday School in Dallas. Brenda now stays home to raise their son Trent. Most notably, he serves as a director of the Dallas Center for Non-Profit Management and is the Co-Chair of the Dallas "Get On Board" Non-Profit Opportunity Fair. Hagar is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Texas and Dallas Young Lawyers Association.
"Kelby embodies the professional excellence and entrepreneurship which has become a trademark of our Carr Scholars," Sande Harrison states. "Recently, Association President Dr. Brian May spoke to ASU graduates about the increasing value of a degree from Angelo State University. Graduates like Kelby Hagar add enormous value and status to our degrees. Kelby and Brenda are ASU shining stars, and we are extremely fortunate to have them as ambassadors for our University and the Association."
