James P. "Jim" Cummings, Sr. started his banking career more than thirty-five years ago in Lubbock,
Texas as a head teller in 1968. Beginning in 1970, he rose through the ranks at First National Bank at Lubbock and in 1983 was named Executive Vice President, serving in that position until 1994.
In 1994, Cummings moved to San Angelo where he became President of Wells Fargo Bank. While in San Angelo, Cummings was an ardent supporter of Angelo State University, helping to coordinate the Wells Fargo Distinguished Lectureship and scholarship in Business, established to strengthen the relationship between the San Angelo business community and Angelo State University. Cummings was Chairman of the ASU College of Business and Professional Studies Advisory Council and also served on the board of the ASU President's Circle. The generosity of Wells Fargo and Cummings' leadership have contributed to the enormous success of the annual Wells Fargo Homecoming Dinner and significant growth of the ASU Alumni Association.
Cummings has also been intricately involved as a civic leader in San Angelo and has served as a San Angelo Health Foundation trustee. He has been a deacon and Sunday School Department Director at First Baptist Church of San Angelo. Beginning in July, San Angelo lost a great leader to Lubbock, Texas, when he moved to take over as the President of Community Banking for Wells Fargo in Lubbock.
Cummings and his wife, Jan, were married in 1966. There three children are Paul, Mark and Marcie and they have three grandchildren, Kamryn, Fletcher, and Aftyn.
