Eugene Dale Miller
Golden Ex of the Year
Eugene Dale Miller, senior class President and a member of the
Eugene Dale Miller
football and basketball squads, graduated from Lake View High School in 1939. Miller continued his education at San Angelo Junior College on a basketball scholarship, serving as Captain of the basketball team from 1941 to 1942. After completing studies at SAJC, Miller began service in the United States Air Force as a Bombardier-Navigator in 1942. He met Louise Elizabeth Davis during his years at SAC and married her in 1944 after returning from overseas. Miller was released from active duty in 1945 and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1964 with the rank of Major.

Miller has worked as a bookkeeper, General Manager for Davis Petroleum, used car business professional, and retired with Model Linen and Uniform Service in 1985. Miller and Louise are members of the First Baptist Church, San Angelo, where he has served as a deacon since 1978. Miller and Louise have three children, David Eugene, Mary Louise, and the late Donald Miller who passed away in 1974, the victim of Muscular Dystrophy. Don was very active with Teens Aid the Retarded Service and inspired Miller to become involved with similar advocacy organizations. Miller held every office with the San Angelo Association for Retarded Citizens and every office, with the exception of President, with the Texas Association for Retarded Citizens. He has also served on the Texas Special Olympics Board of Directors, serving as Chairman from 1983 to 1985.

Miller has actively served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, formerly the Ex-Students Association, and was President of the alumni organization from 1974 to 1975. Miller retired from the Association board in May of 2000 after nearly fifty years of service.

As profiled in the 2000 Fall Alumni Magazine.
