Dal DeWees was born in Stamford, Texas, graduated from high school in Spur, Texas, and earned a B.S. from Texas Tech University in 1963.

For twenty-nine years, DeWees worked for Texas Commerce Bankshares in various markets. In 1977, he was named Chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce Bank, Hurst, Texas. Dewees served as Chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce Bank in Fort Worth, Texas from 1982 to 1985. He then served as Vice President of Texas Commerce Bankshares in Houston, responsible for credit quality of twenty three of the Texas member banks from 1985 to 1989. DeWees was elected Chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce Bank, San Angelo in 1989. DeWees served as Chairman of the Board of San Angelo National Bank from 1997 to May, 2004, when he retired from banking. He currently serves in an advisory capacity as Chairman of the Board, Hirschfeld, Inc. and D&G Consulting.
DeWees has been a prominent civic leader serving as Chairman of the Board and Campaign Chairman of the United Way of the Concho Valley, and a United Way of Texas board member. He has served as a member of the ASU President’s Circle Board, President of Meals for the Elderly, President of Priority One Economic Development Board, a director and member of the Executive Committee of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and Director and Committee Chairman for the Texas Lions Camp for Crippled Children in Kerrville, Texas. DeWees was Chairman of the first and second West Texas Regional Domino Tournaments, raising more than $35,000 for Historic Murals of San Angelo. He was appointed by Governor Bush and reappointed by Governor Perry to the Board of Texas Agricultural Finance Authority in Austin, Texas.
DeWees and his wife, Mary, have two daughters, Kayla and Katherine, and five grandchildren.
